Eclipse wins Youth Employer of the Month.
At Eclipse we are passionate about nurturing our employees and supporting our people at every stage of their career. We have employed Modern Apprentices (MA) for the last 4 years and have found this scheme to be beneficial for both the company and the apprentices. This is because Modern Apprenticeships mean young people can work, learn and earn, while we have developed a skilled workforce for the future.
So why were we nominated for this SDS award – what are we doing well?
In 2014, we were awarded part of the security contract for the Commonwealth Games project in Glasgow – we utilised the services of a number of our Modern Apprenticeships on this contract, enhancing their knowledgebase and further developing their interpersonal skills. Throughout the project, the Modern Apprentices were provided with specialist training (including networking, system design and other specialist industry-specific training). This provided them with an excellent set of base-skills, ready for their enrolment into the Electronic and Security Systems course at New College Lanarkshire to further develop their careers.
Moving on from this project, the MA’s have been recognised as leaders within their learning group and have earned a great deal of respect from their college lecturers. Two of our Modern Apprentices took part in a skills challenge at their college recently. Both of them came in the top 4 and qualified for the Engineers of Tomorrow National competition at IFSEC in June.
The company receives consistently positive feedback from a range of clients (in a range of sectors including industry and higher education) about the Modern Apprentices, both regarding high levels of knowledge in a number of subject areas as well as their work ethic and performance.
We are finalists in the Fife Chamber of Commerce Business Awards under the category Excellence In Customer Service which just further demonstrates our passion for providing the best service we can for our customers through our people.
Neil Alexander (Director) said “Our Modern Apprentices bring a whole range of talent to our company and we are very proud of all that they have achieved in their time with us. They are very able, enthusiastic and eager to learn and we are keen to continue to support them throughout their career with us.
The next step is for us to bring in more youth talent that are of the same high calibre, through this scheme “
We were nominated for the Award by SDS Relationship Account Executive Claire Owens.
Claire explained: “Although Eclipse is a small company, it has huge ambitions and massive potential. The company completed our Skills for Growth programme and developed a youth strategy, including appointing a mentor and coach. Its Fire and Electronic Security Systems apprentices have been recognised as leaders within their learning group at college and are respected by their lecturers. I am delighted its efforts have been recognised in this way.”
Her view was echoed by Chairman of SDS, John F McClelland CBE, who said: “This company invests in and clearly values its young workers while acknowledging the valuable contribution they bring to the business. Its drive to help young people develop their skills is to be commended.”
